2010 Year In Review
I would like to start out by thanking every team that competed this last year, and a big thanks to all of the sponsors to which none of this would be possible.
Well it being the first year of the circuit, I didn't know what to expect. I was nervous along with the people who hired me to come run the event for them. I was new to the game of running a bbq contest, but knew that I had to bring a consistancy to the bbq contests being run in the local area. I reached out to the bbq teams for advice , that I greatly appreciate and still look forward to.
We started in Wadena, MN. at the Pine Cove Inn. Mike and crew did a great job working with us getting everything set up and running smooth. Mother Nature on the other hand decided to test us at our very first event of the year. Around 11:00 am, while the teams were cooking away, pushed through a 50mph straight line wind that challenged everyone. We managed to get things back together and put on a great event with Buda Does BBQ taking home top honors and gaining an early lead in the circuit.
The next stop on the circuit was Ernies On The Gull in Brainerd, MN. Once again Mother Nature decided that we needed more rain and gave us a light rain all day long. But we didn't let that dampen our spirits. A big thanks to Craig and his whole staff for the great time and working together with us to make a great event. With the competition heating up, it promised to be a great battle. Buda the leader, was now in the crosshairs of some very good teams. TC Backyard BBQ took the top honors at this event and AJ's Backyard BBQ applied pressure also with a couple of top 3 finishes.
Welcome to Fifty Lakes Muni , the third stop on the circuit , WOW ! Who would of guessed, its raining again but this time it was off and on. Thanks to Toni and the crew for working with us. They worked very hard and put on an outstanding event. I would like to throw out a special thanks to a good friend of mine, Jeff Bison for helping out with this event, I'll take all the help that I can get ! Once again the competition was as good as it had ever been. Tc Backyard BBQ , AJ's Backyard , Up North BBQ , MN Ribs, Buda Does BBQ , Rum River Rib Rubbers , just to mention a few , Tyler and Colter from TC's Backyard BBQ getting their second win in a row.
Wow ! Its Labor Day weekend already ? That must mean that we are in Pine River at the American Legion for their annual Labor Day Rib Cook Off. I want to thank Greg and his staff for brining us in to run the event for the Legion. This time Mother Nature was kind to us and gave us a great day to compete. With AJ's Backyard BBQ being on his home turf, we knew that it was going to be one heck of a fight, and we were right. The circuit welcomed a couple of new teams to the fight with one of them being a " Packer Fan" well I guess he got the last laugh in this year. Joe and his team came through and won on his home turf , tighting up the points race.
Well, here we are at the Grand Champion cook and there are only a few points seperating the leaders so you know that the teams were bringing their " A " game. Once again I would like to thank Molly and the Chamber of Commerce for brining us in to run the event. Thanks also to Mother Nature for giving us a great day to cook. We welcome again a couple of new teams to the circuit, I'm glad to see that people are taking an interest in the circuit and making it a success. Well they fought hard and at the end of the day it was a new team that took home the first place trophy. Congrats to Monkey's Uncle BBQ. The Grand Champion of the circuit still needed to be crowned, and the two teams that were neck and neck most of the year had a good showing in this event making it a tight race, but in the end, it was AJ's Backyard BBQ edgeing out TC's Backyard BBQ by 2 points to take home the Grand Champion honor. Congrats to you and your team Joe!
I want to give a big thanks to Don and Russ, my table captains for the help with the judging. Without you guys this would have not happened, THANK YOU !!!!!!!! SEE YOU ALL ON THE 2011 CIRCUIT !!!!
